FIA Motorsport Games 2022 organised as an environmentally responsible event

The FIA Motorsport Games, taking place 26-30 October 2022 in France, is striving to become a benchmark for the environmental management of major motorsport events.

Hosted by the French city of Marseille with 17 motorsport disciplines staged at Circuit Paul Ricard, Autocross Veynois, and the Sainte Baume region, the second edition of the FIA Motorsport Games aims to set a precedent for continued sustainable working.

The event will unite individual FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) from across the world as they compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals.

The FIA and SRO Motorsports Group have set out a charter of commitments to work towards environmental sustainability for the second edition of the Games this October,  Circuit Paul Ricard has already achieved the highest three-star FIA environmental accreditation standard – the first French motor racing venue and second F1 track to achieve the accolade.

The event's environmental impact will be measured, monitored, and reduced, while the carbon emissions generated by the 2022 Games will be entirely compensated. All major stakeholders are involved and engaged in the process, making the event a platform to build awareness and communicate about the environment.

To meet those commitments, all relevant data from the 2022 event will be collected to create a baseline for future improvement. The use of renewable energy will be prioritised, and overall energy consumption limited.

The Games will prevent single-use plastic waste and minimise waste in general, proposing sustainable end-of-life solutions for waste generated, whilst eco-friendly accommodation and catering solutions will also be developed.

In addition, the FIA Motorsport Games will follow all relevant local, regional, and national environmental laws and regulations. These actions will be implemented under the supervision of a dedicated Environmental Officer who will work closely with the event’s promoter, the circuit team, and relevant members of the Motorsport Games organisation committee.

“The FIA Motorsport Games is dedicated to becoming an environmentally sustainable event,” said SRO Motorsports Group Founder and CEO Stéphane Ratel. “With around 80 nations set to compete in the 2022 Games, we have an opportunity to inspire each National Sporting Authority to drive sustainability in their own motorsport activities. This year is just the start. In the future we want to focus more on sustainable fuels and lubricants and electric mobility, and establish this event as a leader for the motorsport industry."
